Natural News: Cannabis Kicks Lyme Disease to the Curb

Top 7 GMO Foods to Avoid

Did you know the top 7 GMO  foods to avoid are corn, soy, alfalfa, cottonseed, papaya, canola and sugar beets? We are in a war to fight for our rights to eat food unadulterated. Our government doesn’t to understand how sick our country has become due to our extremely toxic and disruptive foods sources we now have. I am seeing more and more young children in my office who are suffering at such early ages now. Many from the start have food allergies, immune system dysfunctions manifesting as eczema and asthma, not to mention neurological disorders couple with learning disabilities. There is no research needed as far as I am concerned as to why so many have health problems. The ONLY place we need to look is our environment and the damaging things we are doing to our food.  Here is a great article by on the top GMO foods to avoid.

The top seven GMO crops you should avoid like the plague

(NaturalNews) Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are plant and meat products that have had their DNA altered and possibly mutated in some laboratory, and it’s all coined as the evolution of science and biotechnology for agriculture in order to fool the masses into believing that it’s for “our own good.” They (biotech giants) even teach it in schools and at Disney World now, and they say it all without ever telling anyone what they’re REALLY doing, and that is inserting the genes from other plants, animals, viruses and bacteria into food — often in the form of pesticides that can’t be washed off.

For any scientist to say that a human can consume pesticide and insecticide safely at any amounts is absurd, but “modern science” and “Western Medicine” are doing just that, and they’re trying to brainwash our children when no one wiser is around to defend them. Genetically mutated food is everywhere now, in every popular restaurant you can name and in every grocery store you’ve visited in the last 15 years, even Whole Foods. Ever heard of the “canola oil prepared-food bar”? Ninety percent of corn, soy, canola and cottonseed is GMO — the 11th plague, cancer food, has fallen upon mankind.

There are salmon in the ocean with genes from a much larger eel. There are flu shots and vaccines (swine flu for example) that carry GMO bacteria genes, dangerous virus combinations and “weaponized mycoplasma.” It is completely unknown what this concoction does to humans as it’s injected into your muscle tissue, where it hides from your immune response system and leads directly to auto-immune disorders. How would you like NOT being able to build antibodies anymore? How insane is that? All thanks to the bizarre world of believing that eating pesticide-making genes somehow helps mankind prosper. Plus, the FDA doesn’t require safety testing for GMOs. Do you still wonder why they don’t want them labeled? Contributing lobbyists in Washington, DC, represent corporations that fuel the genetically “mutated” agriculture, meat and milk industries, not to mention GM medicine.

The GMO Plague

Market watchers estimate that seven out of ten processed foods at local supermarkets contain genetically modified ingredients, but it’s probably more like ten out of ten. In the past decade, the growth percentage of the top three GMO crops has soared a whopping 80 percent! Dow AgroSciences is right in the middle of it all, making matters worse.

Remember the ten plagues that fell on Egyptians who kept the Jewish slaves in bondage, until Moses freed them? There were locusts and dying cattle, and the death of first-born sons of the Egyptians. Sound familiar? GMO brings plagues upon mankind, including birth defects, infertility, spontaneous abortion, dying cattle, diseased fowl and superbugs and superweeds that consume the agriculture. Here are the seven commandments from the GMO tablets “brought down from the mountain” of Natural News:

Seven GMO Commandments

Thou shall not eat genetically modified corn! Corn is the number one crop grown in the US, and at least 88 percent is genetically modified (mutated) to contain foreign DNA, bacteria and pesticide. It’s used as animal feed also in confined animal feeding operations across the country.

Thou shall not eat GM soy! Soy beans were never meant to be eaten by humans in the first place. The Chinese knew centuries ago. Soy is a staple food that appears in hydrogenated oils, lecithin, emulsifiers and protein supplements everywhere. At least 93 percent of soy in America is GMO.

Thou shall not eat GM cottonseed! It says in the Bible not to tamper with nature and alter its natural form. Look it up. Nearly all fried foods contain cottonseed oil, not to mention genetically modified rapeseed oil — a.k.a. canola.

Thou shall not eat GM alfalfa! CAFO farmers feed to dairy cows genetically modified alfalfa that contains pesticide and gives them digestive disorders and parasites. These conventionally raised cows are bred to produce milk, butter, yogurt and meat. GM alfalfa is toxic, but it’s the fourth largest crop grown in the US behind corn, soybeans and wheat.

Thou shall not eat GM papaya! At least 75 percent of the Hawaiian papaya crop has been genetically modified to withstand papaya “ringspot” virus. Are you a virus?

Thou shall not eat GM canola! Canola is used for bio-fuels. It has been found growing far from any planted fields, which raises great concern about its ability to compete with wild plants as it “escapes” into nature. There was no such thing as canola before the 1970s. Mankind created this mutation from rapeseed by lessening the toxic acid content, and it’s Canada’s number one export to the US. Are they exporting a food plague?

Thou shall not eat GM sugar beets! More than half of all sugar sold in the US comes from sugar beets. That’s also where MSG, monosodium glutamate, comes from. At least 90 percent of sugar beets are GMO thanks to the USDA. The organization True Food Now has a list of foods currently being tested for genetic modification. Get a snapshot of the future and avoid the GMO plague, well, “like the plague.”

Lyme Disease and The Modern Day Vampire – My Story Part 1

*This is a medical disclaimer to anyone reading, this blog is only about my story with Lyme Disease and the events around my personal healing with this disease. I am in no way making a recommendation as to a specific treatment to a medical condition which would be considered out of my scope of practice. I can in no way accept professional responsibility to the various ways in which an  individual decides to treat their personal disease or symptoms.

Having said that I feel compelled to tell my story due to the tremendous amount of people that I see on a regular basis who “come down” with Lyme Disease.  As most of you know by either personal experience,  knowing someone with this disease or perhaps reading in the news,  it is a  multi-systemic disease that can affect anything from your vision, breathing, mental state, nervous system, thyroid, kidneys,  joint, limb, dental health and reproductive tract. It can devastate your immune system and hinder your ability to ever recover and live a normal life again. For many people with this disease they have, unfortunately, come to the conclusion that they will never live a productive life again. Some are bed-ridden or wheel chair bound. Some have yet to be “officially” diagnosed because many never had the traditional signs and symptoms early on of  Lyme Disease. No classic bulls-eye rash, no fatigue,  in some cases never even remembering a tick-bite. Many people have been falsely diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, Lupus and the list goes on and on.

Before being diagnosed with Lyme Disease, I saw many patients who appeared with the nebulous symptoms of Lyme Disease, mainly chronic fatigue, wide spread joint pain, low grade fever, tingling and swirling sensations and brain fog. To be honest, as a practitioner, sometimes the multi-faceted nature of their complaints almost seemed a little hysterical. Especially since these patients were still able to participate in most of their activities of daily living. They were feeling very bad  and yet most were able to accomplish necessary daily activities and chores. They like everybody had stresses and strains in their life whether marital, financial, career or children  but who doesn’t?  That’s just life as we know it.

My Lyme saga began in April of 2011 while training for a  triathlon. I was having a great time feeling strong and powerful as I began to condition my body for the October event. In the spring of 2011, I was swimming 70 laps, riding 30 miles and running 15 miles when my life as I knew it was about to change.  Little did I know penciled in on my karmic dance card was the “Modern Day Vampire” !  My experience with this type of blood sucking Vampire was hardly the romantic interlude we have imagined with the exception that is was life altering and intense!

One spring afternoon I was relaxing on my bed next to my beautifully intuitive cat; the one who likes to lay on top of whatever body chakra she intuitively feels  needs healing and I found a tick on my stomach just underneath my belly button. I know it had not been there too long as I had just taken a shower. I peeled the nasty little body snatcher off and looked very closely to be sure that I got the head of the tick  as well as his whole body, as they tell you to do. I suppose looking back one can never really be to sure you have gotten the whole thing; it’s kind of like breaking a crystal glass on the floor and being sure you “got” all the slivers. The only real way you know is to never find a piece stuck in the bottom of your foot!

The tick that bit me was a dog tick and not the traditional small, microscopic, deer tick we have learned is associated with Lyme Disease.  It stayed on me  30-60 min and no longer. I did keep the tick in a plastic bag, thinking if I ever needed it I would bring it to have it examined. The killing was a deliberate and premeditated one. I was thoroughly disgusted at the site of this body snatcher kicking and screaming, as I with the precision of a surgeon,  gently pulled it from my stomach with tweezers. Mentally, I quickly brushed off this soon to be life-changing event and went on with my day.

I was a little concerned about the bite because through my patients I witnessed the devastation of Lyme Disease but I didn’t put too much energy into it consciously.  Somewhere in the back of my mind, there was that small still voice, telling me to “stay vigilant”.  You know that tiny echo of the inner consciousness we all hear and unfortunately ignore,  but later we regret because we were NOT listening? That would  be Lesson 1-we truly do know what is the right answer to our problems, we just need to be quiet, listen and trust.   Being quiet and listening can be easy for some depending on who you are, it’s trusting ourselves, loving ourselves that can be the challenge. Everyday I would peer down at the red bump left behind from this creature’s bite. After 1 week the red mark had faded some but I began to wonder, is this normal for it to still be there? Still voice, still voice, still voice……. No response by my conscious. I went on about my day. Then one small white bump appeared two inches away from the bite, it looked like a pimple under the skin. It was very tiny. Looked harmless enough but still thought “that’s weird”. Still voice, still voice, still voice….. Again, nothing from conscious mind! Fast forward 3 weeks. Red bump faded a bit but still a tiny bit visible, white bump still there. Still voice, still voice, still voice….now screaming!  Conscious mind, FINALLY LISTENED! At appointment with primary care doctor, I found out he was not there and I would be seeing the Nurse Practitioner. She was nice enough, took one look at the remnants of the bite and the white bump, told me it was not a sign of Lyme, wasn’t sure what the white bump was but that we could run a Lyme Test and if it came back positive we could give the 3 weeks course of antibiotics. One week later the test came back negative. Nope, no Lyme disease according to the doctors office. I guess I should have felt relieved but being an experienced practitioner in holistic and biological medicine somehow these findings  didn’t comfort me. You see it’s not that I don’t “believe’ in western medicine, I certainly know there is a time and place for it but my feeling is that the body is a three-dimensional map of itself.

A true healer understands that there is no way to separate any one part from another. If your head hurts don’t only look to the head to find the reason. You must also look deeper. My experience is  that the problem is generally somewhere other than where the source of the pain is on the body. More than likely the gut. This is where the majority of the immune system resides. In other words the immune system lives in and around your intestines. This is a larger than life epiphany for people out there. A concept not easy to grasp. Wow, to think that the 25 foot membrane that digests our food is more than just that! Who would have guessed? I actually believe more people have heard how important it is to take care of their digestive system but many turn away from that theory because most patients I find, would rather change their religion than change their diet! I understand because in many ways I feel that way. We get into our habits and they can be very hard to change.

I continued with my training throughout the spring and the summer. It was in July that I began to notice some very unusual aches and pains.  I have always been so blessed with my health that any physical ache or pain seemed strange.  So when the sharp, stabbing, knife- like pain began in both knees during a 10 mile run my radar went up immediately. I was hardly able to walk home that day. I went out over the next few days and in the middle of the run again that damn pain. Like cut glass tearing apart my ligaments and tendons. Felt like the inside of my knees were bloody! What is going on?  Denial allowed me to chalked it up to over training and I took a two week break from running. Thought I just needed to take a break from running but then the chills began every time I got into the swimming pool to train during the summer. There went another clue I ignored. The symptoms began to extend to all strenuous activities. Even though some days were well into the 90 degree weather, I would immerse my head in the water and full body chills would rack my entire body.  After the 5th or 6th time of this happening, I began to wonder if perhaps I had an infection that I was not aware of….possibly a kidney or tooth infection crossed my mind. Never would I allow my mind to go to the Lyme diagnosis thing.

September came and although I was having these strange symptoms I kept training. The symptoms were never so acute that I was unable to work or function but by the fall I began to have sweating all over my body, heart palpitations and pain in the tendons and ligaments of my elbows, hands and feet. I suppose I never paid too much attention to them because they were not constant. They would come and go in waves.  Literally some moments were good and others were bad. The stress of running a busy office and using my body so physically as most chiropractors do, I would find that a lot of symptoms happened at work. I continued riding this train to hell for another 2 months of this insanity before I crashed and burned hard.

It was Thanksgiving Day,  November 2011. I went out for a 15 mile bike ride. Came back made dinner, hung out with my family and by 9:00 pm I was in bed with fatigue, flu-like pain, chills, swirling all over my arms, legs and sternum that could stop a large elephant in it’s track! My throat was sore and I felt warm to the touch and oddly enough my temperature seemed to be going down. Not a good sign. Fever is always a good indication because its saying your immune system is doing it’s job but a falling temperature tells you the body is shutting down. Now that’s some scary %&$$!  In the morning, I made an appointment ASAP again with the doctor’s office that originally took my blood after the initial tick bite because now all the background chatter in my inner consciousness that had been ever so vigilant all these months and yet push to the side, was now full tilt boogy in the forefront of my mind. I began to realize what I was dealing with was most likely, dreaded Lyme Disease. I called my sister who is an Internist and after some back and forth about all the possible diagnosis we both came to the conclusion I indeed had Lyme Disease. This conclusion just after she had told me of a patient she heard of that died from Lyme Disease. As you can imagine my response was “And you are telling me this because?…..” Arrrrgh.

The next morning the nurse practitioner again took a battery of test ranging from hormone imbalance, rheumatoid arthritis, mononucleosis and lupus. She did not want to check for Lyme but I insisted. I went home and got in bed and stayed there for the weekend. I was unable to do anything except to wait for my blood test.  I began a cycle of doxycycline that weekend, which is the recommended antibiotic for Lyme. I did feel slightly better by Monday but not much. When the test came back, they were all negative except for blood in my urine and dehydration. Even the Lyme test was negative but it is a well know fact that Lyme is not diagnosed with blood test. It is a clinical diagnosis. The antibiotic never made me feel anymore than 10-20% better.

Once I made the official connection that yes, it was true, I had Lyme Disease I was terrified. I made an appointment with a Lyme literate doctor and spent 3 hours conferring with her about my disease. She also confirmed my diagnosis, at which time she told me I had chronic Lyme disease and the best I could do was manage it with multiple antibiotic, anti-malarial, and antifungals. There was no known cure 7 months into this disease. As you can well imagine my mind began to race with horror as I imagined the active life I had now being threatened to be taken away by a tick bite.

Healing your body: Be Aware and Believe

As a doctor who treats many different types of body pain, I often recognize in my patients small things that everyone could benefit from to keep their bodies in better shape and therefore pain-free. It’s ironic that most of these things are very simple changes, it just so happens that people just haven’t been told about them yet. I believe the first part of any positive step for change is being “AWARE” that change needs to happen. Until you are completely aware of the action or  inaction you cannot make the change.

So to be aware of your activities of daily living, watch how you sit at the computer.  Look at how many times in a day you wrench your head down to text, ipad or phone someone. How many hours in a day do you sit at the computer screen? Did you know sitting is the highest pressure you can put on your back leading to disc hernias?  Sitting improperly increases your risk even more for spine damage. Are you bending and lifting  your children all day long or perhaps you have a job as a postal worker, hair dresser or dentist where looking down is a must. Its these constant acitivities of daily living that wear the body down over a period of years.

The first action required to make a change is to begin the Reversal of Time exercise and motions I talk about to my patients. These exercises are posted on my website for everyone to download and begin. The body has a very distinct way of aging and one of the most prominent is that water content decreases with age in the connective tissue known as the tendons, ligaments and discs of the spine.  This makes the tissues stiffer and less able to tolerate stress. This is also one reason we begin to lose height as we age. Unfortunately, if we don’t do something about it, we all really could be that dreaded picture of that hunched over little old lady or man as we age! That’s the bad news, the good news is IT DOESNT HAVE TO BE THAT WAY! We do have the power to stop, reverse or change that. This brings me to my next requirement about making positive changes to your health.

The second requirement is to “BELIEVE’ that healing is possible. I feel the hierarchy of health begins in our thought processes. Believing in your power to heal has everything to do with becoming well. We have to become aware of our own thoughts and self talk. It’s also what others have taught us about ourselves that can set us off on a life long negative belief system about our abilities to have the power to change. We can spend our entire lives trying to reverse these damaging beliefs once we are AWARE they are there.  This has more damaging effects than any physical harm we can do to our bodies. If you can comprehend that just thinking about a juicy cheeseburger makes your mouth water and stomach growl or that daydreaming about a sunny day at the beach makes you smile, imagine what negative self talk and preprogrammed negative thoughts can do to your body on a cellular level that then manifest as pain and inflammation. I absolutely love this blog written by Bruce Lipton on Believing you can Heal. You can read it too on Sit with this thought and begin to notice all the ways you sabotage your healing by “listening to your self talk” and soon you will become AWARE enough to begin to change! It all starts with a thought!

Dandelions aren’t weeds!

I was out for a long walk the other day and was amazed at all the beautiful flowers and trees blooming but the one blooming flower I noticed the most was the Dandelion. Knowing all the incredible healing and medicinal properties this plant has I began to pick the roots, leaves and the bright yellow flower that this little beauty is known for. I know my fellow hikers and bikers who passed by must have thought I was crazy but if they knew what I knew about this delectable little herb they would never use one more pesticide in their lawn again. They shouldn’t be doing that anyway but that’s another blog! When you think of the Dandelion it really is considered the “Rodney Dangerfield” of the plants in that it gets “no respect”.  Many have often thought of it as a “weed” but the truth is that mother nature makes no mistakes and this is certainly true of this plant. The name dandelion comes from the French “Dente de Lyon” or “Lion’s tooth”,  named because of their jagged tooth-like appearance on the green leaves.

The  little Dandelion’s nutritional value is very high in vitamins A and C, with more beta carotine than carrots and more potassium than broccoli  or spinach, not to mention healthy doses of iron and copper for good measure.  Vitamin A is an important fat-soluble vitamin and anti-oxidant, required for maintaining healthy mucus membranes and skin and vision. The herb is a good source of minerals like potassium, calcium, manganese, iron, and magnesium. Potassium is an important component of cell and body fluids, which helps regulate heart rate and blood pressure and makes an excellent natural diuretic. Iron is essential for red blood cell production. Manganese is used by the body as a co-factor for the antioxidant enzyme, superoxide dismutase. Additionally, it is  a good source of Vitamin B, and zinc. Medicinally, Dandelions are considered very safe and effective as a general tonic that helps strengthen the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, stomach, and intestines,  improving bile flow and reducing inflammation in cases of hepatitis and cirrhosis.  Dandelions also help to dissipate gallstones and are believed to improve kidney function, thereby improving overall health and clearing skin problems. I have often used dandelion herb to break a fever and quicken my bodies ability to fight acute infection. Dandelion is one of the richest herbal sources of vitamin K. Vitamin-K has a potential role in bone mass building and in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease patients by reducing damage to the neurons in the brain.

Did you know that Native Americans use to boil the herb to make a tea to treat kidney disease and inflammation and that Chinese physicians use dandelion to treat digestive disorders and appendicitis? It always amazes me to learn about century old herbal remedies that are in our own backyard that most times are better and safer than any pharmaceutical drug out there!

Here is a great tip for addicted coffee lovers looking for a replacement beverage with a much healthier twist. Dandelion coffee is fantastic to help clear the liver and gallbladder rather than congest it like coffee does. The best way to do this is dig up the roots of a dandelion plant. Be sure to harvest the roots from a dandelion plant that has not been near a road way, so its free of pollution and one that has no pesticides or fertilizer on it. Look for large healthy leaves because this will tell you how big the root is. Pull the leaves off to use in salad or saute with garlic and onions to be served with dinner, pull the heads of the dandelion off and toss into your fresh garden salad or use for dandelion blossom tea.

To make dandelion coffee:

  • Remove the roots from the rest of the plant.
  • Wash the roots thoroughly several times to ensure all dirt is removed.
  • Cut the roots into very small pieces and spread on a baking sheet.
  • Dry the roots in a 150° oven with the door slightly ajar (to allow moisture to escape).
  • Roast the dry roots in a 350° oven, stirring frequently until mildly brown and fragrant.
  • Grind the roasted roots in a coffee grinder.
  • Use 1 teaspoon to brew 1 8 oz. cup of “coffee” .

To make dandelion blossom tea:

  • Pick a handful of dandelions and remove the flower heads from the green parts.
  • Rinse lightly with cool water to remove debris and dirt.
  • Put a few flowers into a mug and add boiling water.
  • Steep approximately 15 minutes or to taste. You can drink plain or add sweetener with honey, agave or stevia.

One thing I love to do with the dandi’s is put them in my dehydrator so that I can make my own dandelion tea or dried leaves to sprinkle in salads, smoothies or sandwiches. You can use them for your kids and loved ones to get their bodies to begin to cleanse without them ever needing to know. Sweet! Below is a picture of my freshly picked dandelions in the dehydrator just after I got back from my walk. I left them to dehydrate for 8 hours then put them in a closed container and sprinkly them on just about everything. My supply is already running low, need another session of weed picking. Thank God for weeds!!

After several pediatric visits and no improvement on our four-month-old baby’s congestion, throaty cough and crying we did the NAET testing with Dr. Seleme. She discovered several food sensitivities I would not have thought of besides dairy and soy. So I was able to change my diet to continue breastfeeding my baby and consider the things when introducing solids. After several visits with Dr. Seleme we reintroduced most of the eliminated foods. And our baby, now almost a year old, is doing so much better and even most of her eczema has been gone. I recommend Dr. Seleme to many new moms – especially those who are breastfeeding.

Dan W.

I had several visits with Dr. Seleme for mold, mildew, leaves and ragweed. Beforehand, I suffered from chronic sinus pressure and headaches. Once desensitized, the difference was amazing. I sleep better and the headaches are gone. I don’t understand how NAET works, but I can say it was very effective!

Dr. Seleme has been of tremendous help with our four-month-old son’s food sensitivities. When we first contacted Dr. Seleme’s office, our baby was screaming in pain all day long, despite the medication he was taking for reflux symptoms. Now, after ten treatments, our baby is a happy, smiling baby. And most importantly, he is off his reflux medication.
